Overview

We are happy to invite you to a one-day workshop entitled “Data by Community by Design” (DXCXD) focused on the intersection of data, community, and design at Tulane University and the greater New Orleans Community that will:

  1. Provide in-person networking opportunities with groups on campus and from the greater New Orleans community to showcase current initiatives that use data and design to improve their community.
  2. Participate in an in-person workshop to brainstorm ideas, articulate opportunities, and identify issues on the horizon that can be addressed through the use of data, community, and design.
  3. Create new linkages between participants and spark ongoing dialogue for improving our community.

Participants will include members of the broader New Orleans community including non-profits, government, and businesses as well as students, faculty, and staff from Tulane.

Format

The event will take place 9:00 am to 12:00 noon on April 28th, 2022, Thursday, in the Qatar Ballroom, Lavin-Bernick Center at Tulane University.

  • Registration (8:30 - 9:00)
  • Overview and Welcome (9:00 – 9:15)
  • Lightning Talks (9:15 - 10:15): Members of the organizing committee and the local community will speak briefly about efforts already underway.
  • Break (10:15 - 10:30): Break and networking time and time to interact with posters from Tulane students and other community groups. Coffee and snacks will be provided.
  • Facilitated Workshop (10:30 - 11:30): Break out facilitated small group session with around 5 to 8 attendees to brainstorm around possible ideas and projects for future collaboration.
  • Gallery Walk (11:30 - 12:00): Group walk of the poster boards generated during the workshop sessions and continued time to interact with posters from the break session.
